One of the best parts of travel for us is trying new types of food. We have thoroughly enjoyed the food in every city we’ve visited. We relied mostly on the opinions of locals and fellow travelers we met in each city when choosing where to eat. Having been so lucky benefiting from their experiences we have rarely been disappointed in a meal. Locals know the best places to eat because of years of experience and travelers form unbiased opinions often eating at many restaurants. One protein we have an affinity for is beef, specifically Alberta beef. Being from Calgary (officially known as Cow Town), we have enjoyed a lot of amazing steaks. In 6 months on the road, we have yet to find a steak that even comes close to ones we have enjoyed at home. This is a walk down gastronomic memory lane. If you should ever find yourself in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, I urge you to take my recommendations as a local. Here are three outstanding restaurants to enjoy melt in your mouth steak in Calgary:
1. Caesars Steak House

This place is a Calgary tradition. Opened in 1972 this fine establishment has served top-notch beef for four decades. Caesars prides itself on serving sterling silver and AAA Alberta beef, dry aged for 28 days minimum. Dry aging is the best way to age beef for tenderness. Tenderness and flavor are top priorities at Caesars, obviously. Every single steak is cut to order and grilled perfectly over charcoal.
My favorite is the 10.5-ounce rib eye with a stuffed potato on the side, so good!
2. Vintage Chophouse
Another one of Calgary’s best steak houses, Vintage is definitely a cut above. Bestowed with the Birks Silver Spoon Award, they serve up seriously amazing steaks and chops. Another thing that makes the culinary experience memorable at Vintage is the perfectly paired wine.
They cellar more than 300 international wines and the table side sommelier service is really something special. Share the prime rib chop with bacon scalloped potatoes, you will seriously lose your mind for this combo. Paired with a glass Wynns Black Label Cab Sav this is a meal to remember.
3. Saltlik

“A Rare Steak House” is Saltlik’s tagline. There are two locations one in Banff and the original in Calgary. Saltlik is unique and quintessentially Calgary; casual, refined, comfortable and modern. The Calgary restaurants ambiance is alluring and downright cozy.
The highlight is the centerpiece, a giant glass chandelier that radiates a red glow. It’s a great place to share tasty appetizers over drinks with friends or dine intimately on a delicious steak dinner for two.
Every great city is known for things that make it special. Calgary is definitely one of Canada’s greats. Known for The Calgary Stampede, its close proximity to the Canadian Rockies and the many great restaurants serving up delicious AAA Alberta Beef Calgary is worth a visit for the steak alone.
I know where to find a great steak in Calgary. What is your hometown known for? Is there anything you would recommend to do or see to someone visiting your city? Leave your recommendations in the comments.
These look like a couple good restaurants! I’ve always been looking for a reason to go to Calgary. Thanks for sharing.
