Imagine being able to travel to one place and experience visiting all of the most famous sites in Europe throughout history. You could see the Eiffel Tower, witness the destruction of the Berlin wall, hear Big Ben’s chimes, and smell the smoke from Mount Vesuvius all within a few hours. Most would think you’d need a teleporter or a time machine to experience all of that! But you don’t, you just need to visit Mini Europe Brussels, at the foot of the Atomium.
Mini Europe is an incredible park that invites guests to travel across Europe, and back in time in a few parts, in just a few hours. They provide 350 models of the most spectacular European locations and monuments.
There are so many amazing things about the park.
There are thousands, if not millions, of tiny intricate details
There are amazing things that you can see right away on each model and there is so much more to be discovered in the tiny details. Meticulously designed, sized, and sculpted, each miniature model is built on the same scale of 1/25th of the actual size. Every monument, house, boat, train, and each and every tiny character is created to that scale.
The coolest part about all of the little people is they are all unique. Important characters in history are even present at certain sites. It's so much fun to lean in and look closely to see what you can discover in the finer details!
The scene at the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Mini Europe shows Galileo conducting his experiment to prove the law of free fall. You can even see how history was made way back when at Mini Europe!
Each architectural model takes an incredible amount of time and research to create. The miniature scenes include true copies of the original buildings right down to the smallest detail. Two of the best examples of the time and detail that went into the models are the mini Arc de Triomphe and the replica of the Grand Place in Brussels.
The Arc de Triomphe model includes the 750 names of fallen soldiers and battlefields as they are inscribed on the iconic monument in Paris.
The Brussels Grand Place display includes miniature replicas of each of the intricately detailed facades found in the real square. It took painstaking craftsmen over 19000 hours to complete. The scale, the accuracy, and the whimsey recreate the feeling of actually visiting the famous European sites.
The opportunity to learn important details about Europe
People remember the places they visit by more than just the architecture. It`s the things that happen there, the sounds and smells of a place. Travel involves all of the senses and Mini Europe has gone to great lengths to deliver that kind of atmosphere for visitors. Displays changed and updated regularly, reflect current events in Europe.
We arrived in Brussels just after the Brexit vote in the UK. An impromptu demonstration set up on the lawn beside the UK parliament model reflected the results of the vote.
Brussels was preparing to set up its famous flower carpet and Mini Europe had already received their own miniature version. It would be set up to reflect the famous display in Grand Place exactly!
Being able to experience historical sites almost like actually being there
In a constant effort to provide realism in the park, various ground coverings, and miniature trees have been placed around the models. Bonsai trees, fountains, and streams have been situated as you'd find them at the original sites. Plants found in different parts of Europe are planted close to the displays like lavender from Provance and grasses native to Spain.
All over the park, there are interactive pushbutton stations. It was fun to press a button and bring a scene to life! Mak loved that he had the ability to bring down the Berlin Wall and kick off a bullfight in a packed Spanish bull ring.
Mini Europe offers each visitor an extensive pocket guide outlining information about Europe and each of the models. Available in six languages and updated yearly, the guides remain up to date and accurate just like the displays! It`s a must have as you walk the park because it tells the history of the sites and points out the different details in the models. This makes it fun for families to learn about the surprises in the park and famous places throughout Europe together.
Visiting Mini Europe Brussels provides visitors with a truly unique experience and inspiration for future travel planning as well. Recommended to us as a must-see in Brussels by Visit Belgium we couldn't agree more. There is nowhere else in the world you can get this kind of perspective on the most famous European Monuments. Get a true idea of how big the Eiffel tower, Big Ben, and the Tower of Pisa really are as you view them all at the same time! It will make visiting the real monuments even more memorable because of our afternoon at Mini Europe Brussels.
