How can you stay in a luxury destination for a budget friendly price?
Places like Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, or Cartagena?
When we travel we always try to find the cheapest way to get to our destination. When considering the cheapest routes we always investigate flights with layovers in places we would like to see. Not flying direct always saves money but the savings can be so good the cost to stay a few days in the layover destination is covered by what we save. We look for the opportunity to travel to 2 places in one trip as long as accommodation in the place on the way to our end desination is relatively inexpensive.
When we looked to book our flight to Colombia the best deals were splitting the journey between 2 airlines. The best (cheapest) place to connect those flights was in Florida, Miami and Fort Lauderdale. We would save so much on the flights it was definitely affordable to spend a week staying in these beautiful destinations.
We had 5 days in Miami and wanted to stay in Miami Beach. Definitely a desirable location but our challenge was to find a place to sleep close to the beach, grocery stores and inexpensive cafes. Close to all of these but for a reasonable price.
Booking with Airbnb we found the perfect place 1 block off Miami Beach.
It was walking distance to reasonably priced food and shops among-st the glittering 4 and 5 star hotels that Miami Beach is known for.The average price for a night in a hotel in the area we were in on Collins Avenue was $220 a night. We found a studio apartment with everything we wanted: full kitchen, Wi Fi, flat screen T.V., queen bed and sofa for sleeping, all we needed to enjoy the beach and available laundry facilities for $88 a night.
The short walk to the boardwalk and beach was the absolute best for us. We would recommend this Airbnb studio apartment for families or anyone who wants to stay and enjoy Miami Beach on a budget.
The location we choose is so important to maximize savings. For us the Airbnb rental we look to stay in must have certain things for us to book: sleeping accommodation for 3, a kitchen with cooking implements, good Wi Fi and a location that is walking distance to well priced grocery stores, cafe options and public transit.
The area must be safe and culturally rich. And of course, the price must fit our budget as well. With Airbnb it hasn’t been too challenging to get all we want for a reasonable price. Booking with them has helped us stay in a luxury destination for a budget friendly price on more than one occasion.
Where’s do you want to travel to next? Is there another great destination you’d like to see on the way?
If you don’t need to fly direct maybe you can swing staying in 2 destinations your next vacation. Staying in a place on the way can actually help you save money on travel in the long run and you just might get to enjoy a little luxury that won’t break the bank as well.
