Writing this article and a ridiculously cheap flight inspired us to check out Eastern Europe. We have spent three months in Bucharest, Romania and hope to visit all the countries in this slideshow! The countries that have piqued our curiosity are Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Bucharest was an amazing experience. There is so much to see and do in that vibrant city at a fraction of what you would pay in other destinations in Europe.
Europe was not part of the plan for our Expat Experiment initially, but it looks like we’ll be spending a lot more time there! It ended up being much cheaper than our experience in South America with the inexpensive flights to travel to various countries it will be easy to afford to explore for a while.
Have you visited Eastern Europe? What was the best part for you?

Great list! I have only been to Prague (on this list), but I definitely have Croatia and Estonia high on my list!
Thanks Chanel! It was so much fun learning about these places.Prague, Croatia and Estonia are on our list of places to visit in 2015 and I wish we could commit to more!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Prague (except for the days we were miserably ill), there is so much to see and we found the people very helpful and friendly – and the cost for a nice apartment for 1 week was very reasonable. The only problem I find with Eastern Europe is that they have not yet caught up with Western Europe for smoking regulations. Western Europeans smoke like chimneys but they are not allowed to smoke inside public places, such as restaurants. While in Prague we struggled with finding smoke-free restaurants. I am allergic so it’s an issue for me. It’s the only reason I would hesitate to return. We loved Prague though!
Our time in Bucharest sounds like your experience in Prague! The people were so nice and prices were the best of all the places we’ve been so far. There was smoking everywhere there, that was the only drawback as Rob is allergic to cigarette smoke too. I want to visit so many places in the slideshow but I know we will return to Romania for sure. Prague is high on our list of places to visit soon. With what you had to say about your experience there, I can hardly wait to get there!
